Documents for Full Text Indexing
With
the Imaging System, Users have access to the Xerox TextBridgeÒ
engine, a powerful Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
tool. Put simply: the OCR process reads scanned Document images into
editable text files. Users then add the output to one of the online Indexes,
parsing the text file into an expandable wordlist. When the Indexing is
complete, Users can perform keyword
searches on the contents of all files
added to an index. Results from this search are linked back to the Document
images stored in the Imaging System; thus, every Document can be indexed,
word for word.
The
system splits the screen into two panes: the Document Image appears in the
top pane, the editable text appears in the bottom pane. OCR output text is
edited in the bottom pane.
Full Text
Search
for Indexed Documents
After
Documents have been OCRed and indexed, Users can search an Index for
Documents containing keywords or phrases. The Full
Text Search engine
provides several advanced search mechanisms such as the logical operators
AND and OR, along with others detailed below. When the system
finds a hit or occurrence of the requested word or phrase, the
Document(s) can be viewed with each hit highlighted in red.
When
using multiple connectors, parentheses denote how relationships are grouped.
For example, the string apple and
pear or orange could mean (apple
and pear) or orange, or
it could mean apple and (pear or
orange).
Search
terms and ranges may include the following:
a.
matches to any single character;
b.
matches to any number of characters;
c.
fuzzy search;
d.
phonic search;
e.
stemming (forms of words ending in es, s, ing, ed, etc.);
f.
synonym search;
g.
numeric range
h.

The
system displays the text file in the left pane and the Document Image in the
right pane. Hits are displayed in red.
The file can be opened in a word processor
such as MS Word below, as
well as in the Full Text search.
